| Gothic -Raval
FAD just across from MACBA has a courtyard out the back that is a joy. The café/restaurant of the CCCB on the other side of MACBA also has a terrace, although less shaded.
Gothic - Ribera
The Museu de Textile on Calle Montcada, opposite the Museu Picasso has a courtyard café, with more tables inside. This is particularly pleasant in the evening.
Gothic - Cathedral
The Real Circle de Artistas between Portal Angel and the Cathedral has outside tables on a first floor terrace. It offers a set menu at lunchtime.
The café in the courtyard by the Mares Museu is one of those special places in the Gothic quarter – a quiet space detached from the crowds. (Closed Mondays) Adjacent to the cathedral, on the Via Laietana side.
Gothic – Port
The cooler breezes that come off the water in the evening make the Port a good choice when the temperature sores. There are many restaurants and bars in this area, starting from the Palau del Mar and the Vaixell de Luz de Gas (a floating bar) in the old port, to the summer terraces set up along the beaches from Barceloneta to Playa de Bogatell. The Marina at the Port Olimpic also offers a large number of restaurants, within the Port and in front of the Hotel Arts.
Exiample
Laie on Pau Claris, 85, just up from Plaza Urquiniona and down from Gran Via, is a bookshop downstairs and restaurant upstairs. They offer a good set menu, with particularly good range of salads and starters, with the dining area extended into the courtyard in summer months. Tel. 93 302 7310
The cafes and restaurants on Rambla Catalunya, which runs from Diagonal down to Plaza Catalunya, put out their tables in the summer months. The temperature is always a little cooler in this tree lined street, and it is much less crowded than the Ramblas itself.
Gracia
The highlight in Gracia in the summer months are their plazas. Plaça del Sol and Plaça de Ruis i tallet are the largest and most popular. Plaça de la Virreina and Plaça Diamante also have terrace cafes and restaurants. For two weeks in mid August the area has its summer festival. The streets are closed off to traffic, decorated by the neighbors who compete for an annual prize and turned into concert venues, so you can wander from one open-air concert to another.
