Old marketplaces renovated for the 21st Century
The marketplace is an essential meeting point - a place that seemed destined to die in the age of supermarkets, but thanks to the foresight of city planners, Barcelona has managed to renovate and make their central markets an integral part of the city commercial landscape.

Apart from the popular La Boqueria, there are several food markets in different parts of the city. Mercat de Sant Antoni is found at the Sant Antoni metro, Mercat de Ninot is on Calle Mallorca/Urgell, La Mercat de Concepcio is on Calle Aragon near Ps. Sant Joan and el Mercat de Santa Caterina is due to be reopened in 2005, just a couple of minutes from the Cathedral (crossing Via Laietana).

La Boqueria - Las Ramblas

La Boqueria is probably Barcelona's most famous market, thanks to its location in the heart of the Gothic Quarter on the Ramblas.
San Antoni

El Mercat de San Antoni is found at the exit of the Metro station with the same name, at the end of Ronda San Antoni - which marks the limit of the Gothic Quarter.
