There are various train services of interest if you want to escape to the mountains. You can reach Montserrat by Ferrocarrill from Plaza Catalunya and an aerial tram that climbs up to the Monastery.

The Pyrenees can be reached by the RENFE service to Puigcerda. This train stops at Ribes Freser, where you can take a special cog train service up to visit the sanctury of Nuria. This is a great day trip, as the mountain train connects with the main service. The sanctury also offers hotel accomodation, a restaurant and café. In winter months there is a skifield, although it is rather small. Keen skiers looking for easy access to a day on the slopes would be recommended to visit La Molina, using the same train service and taking the bus from the designated station.

Combined tickets are sold at Plaza Catalunya for these services, including the ski pass in winter months.
