Bars in Barcelona

There is a great choice of bars, but many are bunched together in different areas of the city.

So here is a quick guide to some of the areas:

Bars by Barrios

  • In Barceloneta, there are several bars on the beach front, even more in the Olympic Port, and the bars looking over Port Vell are popular, especially when the weather gets warmer.
  • There are many bars in and around la Plaça Reial. Popular with tourists, as this is just off the Ramblas, it is worth stopping to have a drink and observe the constant flow of people. There are many other bars tucked away in side streets, if you know your way around the gothic quarter.
  • El Born – this trendy neighborhood is full of bars and restaurants. Head to Passeig del Born as a starting point, and explore some of the options in the adjoining streets.
  • Sant Antonio and Poble Sec are two inner city areas that are worth exploring. Start around the Mercat de Sant Antoni.
  • Exiample – Career Enric Granados is a good place to start if you want to explore the night life in the Exiample
  • Uptown – there are many areas uptown worth checking out. Start in the area of Carrer Mari Cubi
  • Gracia – the narrow streets of Gracia are full of bars, especially around the plazas.
  • Poble Nou – this area attracts a younger crowd, particularly in the vicinty of Carrer Marina and Razzamataz..a venue for live music.

When does the night get started?

A good question. Keep in mind that many locals don’t have dinner before 9pm and often after 10pm. As a result, you’ll see restaurants full at 11pm, particularly on the weekends, and bars will get busy after that.
