Water sports

The Gulf of Roses is a playground for water sports.

The mild Mediterranean climate allows water sports enthusiasts to stay active throughout the year. So whether you want to learn to sail, love kite surfing or want to compete, you will find many options.

Sailing clubs

There are many sailing clubs along the coast. In the vicinity of Barcelona the CMV in the Olympic Port is a Municipal Sailing Club that runs sailing courses. The more traditional clubs are found in the old port, but there are also good alternatives up and down the coastline in Masnou, Sitges, Vilanova or Garraf, just to give a few examples.

The Pati Catala is a sleek catamaran without a tiller. This class is very popular in Catalonia and offers some real challenges to those who love small-boat sailing.

Crewing on a yacht

Most ports are full of yachts, but even when the conditions are perfect you will find most yachts are tied up to their moorings. So if you know how to sail, you may find opportunities to crew at the weekends, as most larger yachts need some extra crew. Make inquiries at the local yacht clubs in Port Vell. The two main clubs are next door to one another, just by Maremagnum. Real Club Maritim Barcelona and Real Club Nautica Barcelona. There are a series of high profile yacht races held over several weekends in the Spring, including the CondeGodo Trophy.

Kite surfing

One of the best kite surfing locations is up on the Costa Brava at Sant Pere Pescador in the Golf of Roses. The open sandy beaches attract many kite surfers throughout the year.
