Coworking spaces began to appear around 2010, as remote working slowly emerged as an option, and more professionals opted to work independently. Business incubators began to offer space to start-up companies and independent coworking spaces appeared as the flexible workspace model took off. Post-pandemic, the number of active coworking spaces has grown considerably and there are some great alternatives if you need an office space, or simply prefer the energy of coworking centres over working from your own apartment.
There seem to be clusters of coworking spaces in Barceloneta, the City Centre (Plaza Catalunya/Urquinaona), Passeig de Gracia/ Diagonal and Poble Nou/@22 – where many of the tech companies are located.
Monday
Monday – has 5 different coworking locations in Barcelona. The one that caught my eye recently was a whole block in C. Pau Claris, just up from Plaza Urquinaona. Ideally located in the centre of the city.
Onecowork
Onecowork – with three coworking spaces in the old city, between the Cathedral and Portal del Angel, they offer a great variety of membership options including daily passes, flexible desks, monthly membership or private offices.
Itnig
Itnig – a successful start-up incubator, Itnig has grown on the success of its ventures and by supporting the tech community. They opened a cafe and Coworking space in a new building in Calle Pujades, in Poble Nou/@22, also known as the tech district, to complement their existing building in an adjoining street. If you are interested in finding a community of start-ups and tech developers, then Itnig is a good place to check out.
Makers of Barcelona
MoB – the Makers of Barcelona opened their first coworking space in Career Bailen over ten years ago and have since opened another space in front of the Mercat de Santa Caterina. They have created a strong community and organise events, which is something that sets them apart.
Norskken
Norskken is a future coworking space scheduled to open in the second half of 2023 just next to the Hotel W at Barceloneta. This Scandinavian group of impact investors have seen huge potential for the future of work in Barcelona. Let’s wish them great success.
Tech Barcelona
The organization behind Pier One, Pier Three and Pier Seven, and the annual Tech Spirit Conference and BcnTech4Women.
Tech Barcelona is an independent private non-profit association that works to reinforce Barcelona as a model of the international digital and technological ecosystem.

The need for good advisors
Once you stay over 6 months you are going to need to manage your taxes. The first couple of months, you can pretty much work remotely, but long term residence usually has tax implications. That’s when it is worth getting legal advice and maybe employing an accountant.
